Hagerstown Aviation Museum Presents ...
Spring Wings & Wheels Airplane and Car Show
Aircraft Displays, Antique and Muscle Cars, Fly-bys, Historic C-119 to Run Engines

(HAGERSTOWN, MD — June 10, 2009) The Hagerstown Aviation Museum will hold its Spring Wings & Wheels Airplane and Car Show at the Hagerstown Regional Airport Saturday and Sunday, June 13th and 14th.
- Fly-bys of museum aircraft featuring the Fairchild PT-19 and other vintage planes.
- At 3:00 pm
The C-119’s powerful Pratt and Whitney engines will be started and will be test run. - At 4:00 pm
Over 40 trophies will be awarded to the top cars and trucks by local celebrities Mary King, Miss Western Maryland, and Whitney Colombo, Miss Washington County. Trophies are sponsored by the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Saturday, June 13
Wings & Wheels will feature the car and truck show. All types of collectable cars and trucks are welcome. The first 100 registered vehicles will receive commemorative dash plaques. See antiques, classics, muscle cars, imports and exotics. Proceeds from the $20 registration fee for competing cars and trucks benefits the museum.

Museum board member and former NASA Associate Administrator, Sam Venerri, will present “100 Years of Powered Flight” with exclusive video, photographs and artifacts from his many years in aerospace design, manufacturing and as Chief Technologist and Director of Flight at NASA. - At 3:00 pm
The massive engines of the museum’s C-119 “Flying Boxcar” spit, sputter, smoke and gasp just before they roar to life. The day’s events will conclude with a special aerial demonstration featuring the “Hagerstown Aviation Heritage Flight” with Hagerstown built airplanes and other vintage aircraft in the air to commemorate Hagerstown and Washington County’s rich aviation heritage!
Sunday, June 14
Wings & Wheels will kick off the museum’s first annual “Aviation Heritage Day” celebrating over 90 years of Hagerstown and Washington County aviation, past, present and future. This special day will feature museum displays throughout the grounds as well as other privately owned vintage aircraft.

C-119 pilot Frank Lamm and co-pilot TR Proven will climb into the cockpit, complete the pre-start engine checklist, prime the engines and then press the engine starter switch.
This will be the first time the public can see and hear the C-119’s eighteen cylinder radial engines roar to life with over 7000 horsepower. This is a sight, sound and smell you won’t want to miss so bring your video camera! The Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone was one of the most powerful radial aircraft engines produced in the United States.

Both days will feature museum aircraft and exhibits, family fun and much more.
The museum’s Fairchild C-82 and C-119 Flying Boxcar will open for visitors during the weekend. See the three museum Fairchild PT-19’s and a recently donated PT-26 that will be on display along with the museum’s 1928 Kreider Reisner KR-31, AT-6 Texan and Fairchild SM-73 Goose Decoy and other visiting aircraft. See fly-bys of museum aircraft featuring the Fairchild PT-19 and other vintage planes. Museum books, DVDs, Hats, T-shirts and other items will be available for purchase.
The 2009 Museum Fundraising Raffle supports museum projects and raffle tickets will be available for purchase during the Wings & Wheels show and are also online at www.hagerstownaviationmuseum.org/raffle.html
Food, drinks and ice cream will be available with proceeds benefiting the Maugansville Fire Company and the Hagerstown Aviation Museum.
