(HAGERSTOWN, MD — June 5, 2009) The Hagerstown Aviation Museum is moving forward with the development of the museum’s new Visitor & Education Center. This Center will be housed in a modular structure currentlyowned by the museum and will be located on county property on Besore Drive across from the ramp of the former Fairchild Aircraft factory Plant 2. The Visitor & Education Center will become the first museum facility open to the public.
Highlights of the Center include:
- Great view of the airport main runway and aircraft activity
- Located in view of the former Fairchild Aircraft factory
- Events held at Hagerstown Aircraft Services within walking distance
- C-82 and C-119 on display within walking distance
- Individual and group tours of museum aircraft conducted from the Center
- Free parking for cars and buses
- Regular visitor hours
- Museum Gift Shop
- Educational programs for all ages
- Historic aviation displays, programs and aircraft tours by admission
- Restroom facilities
- Museum office
- Volunteer staff
Financial support is needed to achieve the Visitor & Education Center building fund goal of $30,000. In-kind services and materials will also be needed.
