Senate approves measure to reauthorize funding at Hagerstown Regional Airport
A recently expired federal program that funded Hagerstown Regional Airport's passenger service would be reauthorized for another year under a bill passed Tuesday night by the U.S. Senate.

Senate Passes Legislation to Ensure Continuation of Passenger Service for Hagerstown Airport
(WASHINGTON — October 31, 2007)
The Senate has unanimously passed bipartisan legislation co-sponsored U.S. Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD), to ensure that the Essential Air Service (EAS) program continues in Hagerstown until Congress passes the five-year reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Passage of the FAA reauthorization bill, which contains a provision to continue the EAS mileage waiver program, could be delayed until 2008.

U.S. Senators Benjamin L. Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (both D-MD), announced today that the Senate included funding for the Essential Air Service program (EAS) in the short-term funding that passed the Senate last night to keep the government operating until Nov. 15. The EAS funding would have to be extended after Nov. 15.

A rare FLYING PT-19 aircraft is flying to Hagerstown, and is being donated to the Hagerstown Aviation Museum. The PT-19 was manufactured in Hagerstown by the Fairchild company starting in 1939 and through the very early 1940's.
